Planning Permission in Wolverhampton
Planning Permission may be required for certain alterations, extensions and change of use of buildings and land. Under Permitted Development certain alterations and extensions do not require planning permission if they comply with certain rules and criteria. We can check whether your scheme would be allowed under Permitted Development or if a planning application is required. Certain parts of Wolverhampton are designated as being in a conservation area, there are currently 30 conservation areas in Wolverhampton, these areas are varied in character ranging from old village and town centres through to stretches of canal, industrial areas and Victorian suburbs. If your property is in one of these areas you will need to apply for planning permission for certain types of work which would be allowed under Permitted Development in other areas. Occasionally the local planning authority may have removed some or all of your permitted development rights by issuing an Article 4 direction. This will mean that you have to submit a planning application for work which normally does not need one. In this case they do not normally charge you an Application Fee.

In deciding whether a building project falls within Permitted Development several factors have to be taken into account such as the size of the extension, percentage of plot covered, height of eaves, ridge height, and which part of your property you wish to extend – side, rear, front or roof and whether property has been extended before. Visit our permitted development page.
